Space next to your vehicle changes the whole rhythm of a trip. With a drive away air awning, you can cook, relax and store kit under cover, then disconnect and take the vehicle out without packing everything down. At Outwell® we design these awnings to feel like a Home away from Home, with practical layouts, large windows and ventilation that suits family camping. The inflatable frame keeps pitching straightforward, and our designs are thoroughly tested with regard to wind and water resistance so you can tour with confidence in mixed weather. Choose a compact option for quick stops, or a more feature-led model for longer stays.
A drive away air awning attaches to your vehicle, but it is built so you can leave it standing on the pitch when you take the vehicle out. In practice, you connect the awning via a roof connection with beading, then use a drive-away kit or a reconnecting solution (depending on model) to detach when you need to go shopping or explore locally. When you return, you line up, reconnect and you are back to your sheltered living space without a full re-pitch.
If you are still weighing up different styles, it helps to compare sizes, fabrics and connection methods across our full range of vehicle awnings before you decide.
An inflatable awning replaces most of the rigid frame with air tubes, so you get supportive structure without threading multiple poles. Many campers like the way this simplifies pitching and reduces the number of parts to keep track of. With an inflatable drive away awning, you can also fine-tune the tension as conditions change, which is useful when the weather turns and you want the canopy and walls sitting neatly.
Some people still prefer the familiar feel and very precise geometry of a traditional frame. If that sounds like you, it is worth looking at poled drive-away awnings to compare pack size, pitching style and how each option feels to live with on longer trips.
We organise our range so you can quickly match features to the way you travel. Road Trip Air focuses on straightforward touring comfort: practical shapes, bright living space and user-friendly pitching. Superior Air Touring adds more premium touches for those who spend longer on one pitch or camp through changeable weather, where fabric performance and extra comfort features really matter.
Within the category, you will find different approaches to layout and connection. Santa Monica Air is a compact option when you want sheltered space without a large footprint. Daytona Air keeps things simple with single point inflation. Talladega Air and Wolfburg Air use a parallel-mounted design and a removable access zone, which can be a smart solution when you want to use campsite space efficiently while keeping easy access back to the vehicle.
If you are planning longer stays and want higher weather protection with built-in comfort details, Park PowerAir is designed as a feature-led choice. The flysheet uses Outtex® 6000 Express RS polyester with a 6000 mm hydrostatic head, and the Power Air System includes the apex tube design for added stability. Details like the Awning Sealing System help reduce draughts where the awning meets the vehicle, and the integrated Outwell Light System (USB-C powered) adds practical evening light without extra lantern hooks.
Park PowerAir is also “Drive Away Ready”, which means you can reconnect directly without needing additional Connect Sets. With symmetrical doors at both ends and big mesh-backed openings, it is set up for comfortable days on site, not just quick overnight stops.
If you often change location, a lighter, simpler structure can make your day easier. Daytona Air is built around the One Air System with single point inflation, so you can concentrate on pegging out cleanly and organising your living space rather than managing multiple inflation points. It also gives you flexible opening options, with two sides that can open for views and ventilation, plus a vertical front wall and canopy for sheltered entry.
For an even more compact footprint, Santa Monica Air keeps the design straightforward while still delivering proper sheltered space, large tinted windows with curtains, and a front that can open with mesh backing. It suits short breaks when you want the benefits of an air drive away awning, but you would rather not dedicate a large area of the pitch to extra living space.
Start with two checks: your attachment height and the connection details on your vehicle. Many drive-away models fit an attachment height around 175–200 cm, but you should measure from the ground to the connection point to avoid a poor seal or awkward angles. Next, confirm you can use the correct beading size (often 5 mm or 7 mm) and that the roof connection length suits your setup.
If you have a taller vehicle, look out for optional mid/tall connection solutions designed to increase the attachment height to around 240–270 cm. It is also worth thinking about how you want to use the pitch: parallel-mounted models such as Talladega Air and Wolfburg Air can help you keep a neat footprint, and the removable access zone gives flexibility if the pitch layout forces you to swap orientation.
A few additions can make your awning feel more like a real room. A fitted footprint helps protect the base from abrasion and reduces cleaning at the end of the trip, and a matching carpet makes the living area warmer underfoot on cooler mornings. If you want extra privacy or sleeping space, optional dark-fabric inners can turn part of the awning into a tidy cabin for children, guests or organised storage.
For quick shelter on day stops, awning canopies are also worth considering alongside your main inflatable awning. To keep your awning performing well, dry it thoroughly before storage, clean gently, and check valves and tubes occasionally. Air systems are designed for reliability, and repair patches and spare parts are available for peace of mind.
